Kaylen's School Birthday-Pre celebration

The original cake from icing room 1.5kg at $58, initially I was looking at pine garden cake which cost ~$80 for 1.5kg but it required us to collect at 8:30am from AMK, and party is at 9:15am. I thought its too much chance to risk. Then I was looking at another baker, which charge $125 including delivery..again, I find it too ex for a playgrp cake..So finally I ordered this cake from icing room, and added the mickey on top..hehe..since Kaylen wanted mickey mouse cake so much..

bored kaylen too tired to smile

Butter cookies for Teacher's Day

Jared is getting very familiar with baking, he can handle the mixer quite well, and sift the flour properly.

Taste yummiest of all times I had done before..as I followed recipe exactly, and did not cut short and do without mixer. The buttery taste just like the round tin danish cookies..

Recipe from happyhome baking, baked at 180C, add 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla essence

Ingredients:

(makes about 36 pieces)

100g butter, softened at room temperature

80g caster sugar

1 egg yolk

180g cake flour

20g corn flour

Method:

Sift cake flour and corn flour together and set aside. Line baking tray with parchment paper, set aside.

With an electric mixer, add in sugar to the butter in 2 ~3 additions and cream till the mixture turns pale and fluffy.

Add in egg yolk and mix well.

Add sifted flour mixture in 2 ~ 3 additions, stir with a spatula to form a soft dough.

Place dough in a plastic bag and flatten with rolling pin.

Refrigerate the dough for about half an hour.

Remove dough from fridge. Roll out dough on slightly floured work surface and cut out with slightly floured cookie cutters. If the dough appears to be a little to hard and breaks into pieces while rolling, leave it at room temperature for a few minutes. The dough will soften up and can be rolled easily.

Bake at pre-heated oven at 175 degC for 15 ~ 20mins.

Let cool and store in air-tight container.

The packaging...only can give 4 piece cookies per teacher..the card  & wrapper were from daiso..

Pineapple upside down cake

Recipe from peng's kitchen
Cake was too wet direct from oven. But the next day, the moistness was just nice..We cleared off the whole cake in 2 days..wonderful butter rich taste. and Jared loves the pineapple.

Cake cutting...Jared's fav

Koko feeding meimei. Usually it is the other way round..cos he is always lazy to eat, while Kaylen is more independent..so I usually will asked her to remember to feed koko some fruits while she eats them..hah.So that koko poo poo won't be hard.

Ingredients

Butter for greasing

2 tbsp sugar

6 slices canned pineapples

45ml pineapple juice

11 glace cherries

100gm flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda

100gm soft butter

70gm sugar

2 eggs

Method

Grease the base of a 8" cake tin (neither loose-bottomed nor springform).

Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of sugar on top of the buttered base, and then arrange the pineapple slices to make a circular pattern.

Fill each pineapple ring with a glace cherry, and then dot one in each of the spaces in between.

Cream butter & sugar until light. Beat in eggs one at a time until combined.

Sieve over flour, baking powder & baking soda till evenly mixed. Stir in pineapple juice.

Spread cake batter over pineapple rings.

Bake in preheated oven oven at 160 deg cel for 30-35 minutes. Cool slightly. Loosen the edge with a knife, place a plate on top and flip over to unmould the cake.

Violin dilemma

After a yr working on Suzuki bk 1 (started Oct '10)..he has finally proceed to Suzuki book2.

Prof Thanh has also offered to let him take violin exam grade 2 in next march..But but, in preparation for exam, we already spent $50+ to buy 2 book (exclude suzuki bk2)..and 1 more OOS.

And that's not all..we have to enrol him for another lesson for aural exam which will cost $400+ for 2 semester..and finally, because we are not sure if he really can pass the exam or not..

That's why really feel the pinch now..more $ spent, more  lesson to attend..especially next yr he's going to P1 afternoon session and got to stop abacus and attend to aural lesson on Fri 8:30pm to 9:15pm..

Somehow we are really spending so much time on all these developments..

Sushi love

It all began with the Edo sushi shop coming back to Sun Plaza..everytime Jared pass by the sushi shop he would ask for a piece with the fish roe..then when Kaylen saw him having it, she would also ask for one..

So now we have to buy 2 each time. And everytime they have no patience to go home and eat, and will asked to eat on the way home. Then followed by 1 yakult each..hah

Groupon deal @ Bakerzinn

The chicken teriyaki set, we got both set with cheapest cake, the swiss roll :(. Jared loves the chicken teriyaki as it was sweet.
The carbonara set

The feast, we order 2 set lunch, and 1 kid meal of penne..

The kids love the penne even though its quite hard
Kaylen got her juice in the coffee cup...She said "like drinking coffee"

Love the groupon deal, and I have been spending $ there. This was $10 deal for $20 worth voucher..We never dine in bakezinn as the food price is on the high side. Bought 2 voucher and top up like $14 for a hearty meal..with everyone bloated..as they have free flow of bread..hehe.

A night to remember

Jared read me to sleep..wonderful..hah

After some regular assessment book, we proceed to the bed room at 9:30pm to continue reading our book

Roald Dahl’s The giraffe, pelly and me. We have been sharing the reading with him reading the longer page, and I read the shorter page.

But last night was different..He forgot that I’m supposed to read after him..so he continue and continue..till I fall asleep..

When daddy go to bath, he played the iphone, when daddy back..I overhead him saying, ok, I read a few more page for you.

Jared at 5yr 8mth..3more mths to turning 6

This book is much more difficult than the enormous crocodile as the words are more lengthy..But he is fine with it now, as long as every pg come with some illustration. I agreed with some blog saying that at their age now, even they could read, but they might not understand the content..So pictures are very important to help them. So now, finding books at the library is more challenged..cannot be too little words, hv to be funny…and with lots of illustration.

Our regular hair stylist at Whampoa, hair corner finally understood what we expect of Jared's hair.

The side burn must be long...

Doesn't he look so jap and so kawaii-ne. hehe

Jared’s development 5 yr 9 mth

Abacus

+/- at level 6

Started multiplication sums

Timetable memorise up to 6x

Violin

Do not know what happen to Prof Thanh..he let him pass Minuet no.3 & happy farmer in 1wk. when he still play super slow..now he is at Gavotte.

Even though there is little improvement, and I don’t know how long can we endure the slow progress..we’ll see how it goes..haiz.

English&math

We are working on P1 stuff since beginning of the year..progress is not bad..Some of Andrew Er’s assessment book can be quite challenging, and he loved it when I use actual object to let him resolve if reading does not help.

Chinese

He has just started P1 preparation class at void deck school which thought him some hanyupinyin..since its not covered in school.

Swimming

This is something quite fan2. Coach has been complaining abt his motor skill not there..hehe. Mainly cos he is so scared of water. It take so much courage to put his head inside water. In fact now, we even had to bring him for extra time at swimming pool to help him progress faster, which the coach keep nagging.

I find it so challenged being parents here…there’s seemed like nothing I can sit there and wait for the kids to show me their results. We need to work hard with them..even simple thing like swimming
