Jared's Grade 5 Violin Recital

Okay..my only wish for him for the recital is no matter what happens finish the song..

During his Grade 2 and Grade 3 Violin recital, he made huge mistake and always ended crying on my lap.

But I'm so glad that this grade 5 ...at least he finish his song...I can't hear the mistake anyway

Jared's 1st recital with Teacher Joy

For this recital, he must have practised the song for half a year..and after the SA1 exam it was like almost everyday. When we found out that we had to pay $90 for the recital, immediately we regretted..but had to go ahead as promised teacher to take part..

The recital was held at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory at NUS..rehearsal was at 1.30pm and actual concert 4.30pm

End up we enjoyed it..part of the reason should be almost every performer made some mistake, so it wasn't that stressful to produce a flawless piece. ..

Its important for a musician to have a chance to perform..I'm glad he did very well..and think he should take part every yr

Actual concert, the glitch at the beginning was due to me accidentally press pause. He almost play a perfect song..

Jared's Grade 3 Violin: Distinction

He deserved the good result with constant hardwork from my nagging, daddy's perfect hearing guides!

So proud of my boy!

Even though he didn't do well in the recital, and the few days of practice just before exam...he managed to do well in the exam! .

This year many many Mandaville kids with very outstanding result..as opposed to Kaylen's music key school that all of them just pass and 2 failed...now its really each cents counts..Taking each grade at Mandaville cost 1k+, while at music key < $200..

Daddy just told, his reward will be a new violin...hehe..And the boy frown.. :)

Got back the cert and comment from Examiner, much improved as compared to his Grade 2!

2 out of 3 songs were almost perfect score!

I believed this has got to do with his current level of playing at Grade 5 at the last 2 songs from book 3..and Teacher Joy somehow taught him to play on the right tempo...When we were with Prof for g2..he focused a little too much on the sound of each note, and ended the song doesn't really sound alike, and It was daddy's hardwork to listen to youtube to correct him on our own. As for teacher joy, she taught him to play with full of energy.

For the sight reading, there was also tremendous improvement from G2..Mandeville used the time in master class and ensemble to teach them a little here and there..

Expecting the Big Day..Violin Grade 3 exam

Tomorrow will be his Grade 3 exam..He didn't do well in the recital as he was too sleepy and nervous..

He cried right after playing knowing his mistakes..and when he got home immediately got to bed..and happily told Waipo the next day that daddy didn't even have a chance to scold him, as he already asleep. How notti at 9 yr..

My advice for him was, if he find this difficult and would rather give up so easily..in future he would be ready to give up anything..before he knew it, he would end up landing on job like washing the toilets, collecting rubbish..which are the most difficult job in the world.

We had really work hard to prepare the exam..all I wanted him to do is his usual performance, enjoy the process since its part of growing up..

Only got 2 tickets, and Jared need a seat too..so I gotten the best idea, Kaylen and me wait outside..and during the intermission, when Jared go to the backstage, we entered the auditorium..and enjoyed the 2nd part of the show..heh







My great purchase from Amazon $20+ Nautica size 10 shirt with some alteration, he should be able to wear this all the way till 12 yr! heh

Now we realised why when it get high level less students performing, that' cos less excited parents!..and attending the concert is not that important anymore..Not cos its difficult to achieve the level.

Update 7-Nov after her regular lesson on 6-Nov

This is what happen in the violin class, after a wk of practice with mummy

Teacher: You never practice with her ah this week?

Daddy: yes, not as much

Teacher: if mummy don’t know, don’t practice. Pick up all the bad habits, next time very difficult to change

*referring to her slanted bow and also did not follow music tempo*

This is so funny, in mummy’s ears she practicing and played well. I thought I can share daddy’s job since I only need to play the CD, and she follow the CD to play..that’s such a significant impact..hehe..

Jared's ABRSM Grade2 Result

It is already so difficult to pass with Jared's standard..and he surprised us and definitely Prof Thanh with the Pass with Merit..as he already told us Jared will not get distinction, but should be able to pass, way before exam..heh..

For the 3 songs..the 1st song was way too slow, and not suitable for his playing style..thus its expected he play better and better, that explain the improvement of score from 22-> 25 -> 26

He is also quite confident with oral nowadays..but there's a trick to the oral..for G2 there's only 2 timing..so its a half half chance, if guess wrongly will fail..really thankful for the good luck..

Jared got a pass with merit for his Grade 2 Violin Exam!! Wonderful

I’m soooo happy..This have been the heaviest load we had ever since we sign up for his exam
It was a big commitment of time, $ and stress on us and him…together with our selling and buying of house

His performance was very inconsistent..after half a year of practise, he still cant get the 1 count, 2 count, loud or silent playing right..Just a few days before exam, everything was wrong..scales, songs, sight reading etc.

The only thing was not bad perhaps is the oral…from teacher refused to teach him, till he surviving through the whole half year of course.
Then came the exam date 13Mar

Daddy took full day to be with him..Prof Thanh requested them to reach at 9:30am for practising..but he was playing badly again..Finally just before exam, the practise with Teacher acompanist Stefan, was wonderful.

Then they went for lunch, Jared does not have any appetite, and was complaining stomach pain and breathing problem..Daddy had to divert his mind to iphone games..

After the exam..Daddy asked Teacher Stefan how was it, he just replied it was ok.

Immediately after the exam, I was feeling much relieved..it was a big stone lifted..

Very thankful to Prof Thanf and yet felt Sorry..cos we just decided to switch teacher..as the violin lesson clashes with his TLL class. So we are going to start with Teacher Joy on Fri. According to daddy, Teacher J may not be as good as Prof, as she might not pay attention to bow hold, finger etc..

Of course finally daddy's effort with his extraordinary hearing to help Jared get through this...We promised, unless he understand what he's doing..else will not enroll him for exam anymore

Waipo promised to gift him $100 as present for passing his violin exam..He would be happy to know this..as he’s saving up for his bed..hehe..

This was the 1st take..and I don't know why he had to make the same mistake every time haiz..and dunno why prof taught him andatino just 1 wk after allegreto..so it meant harder work for daddy..we got to practise 2 song hand in hand

no 4th finger, so slightly easier..once Prof thought him how to picicato, when he got home he could play this tune already..

Long long ago

Finally no more little einstein & parsnip so we can proceed to Long Long ago...

Used a lot of the 4th finger, that's why the sound so bad everytime it reach that note..But overall really have improved quite a bit on the 4th finger

Mandeville Annual Concert 2010 Part 1

This year, (not sure with previous year though)..all kids who joined the monthly ensemble lesson can join the concert..So I thought why not let him try it. But it has been stressful throughout though..first all the kids in ensemble seemed to be way advance..and he didn’t dare to play for so many month till about july..and started to enjoy only after august ensemble?

Having problem to catch with them made him worried..

But finally on the concert & its rehearsal, he played not bad..with his dance step..

Concert was at 3.30-5.30pm, assembly time at 2.45pm

We reached slightly earlier at 2.30pm and has parked Kaylen at Whampoa..cos we didn't want her to disturb us during the concert..heh

This kind of concert can be quite stressful for me at times..I need to plan his meal times, poo time..and dressing up time..so bz.

Proud daddy, solely in charge of his dressing..and performance...We worked very hard the week before..stop all his other works just concentrate on practise the parnip polka and little einstein song..We found the tunes from you tube and made him follow it..
