Back in SG-Towards the end of Dec Holidays 2014

School holidays are so precious now..we don't need to wake up as early as 5.30am, and no traffic jam on the way to work, no homework, no exams...and so fast we are now at the last week of school holidays for 2014!

Since we were back in Sarikei for the xmas holidays, I suggested to visit Orchard road..instead Jared found so many excuses to go Ikea

He said he missed the hotdog buns, and he think we need to get a table lamp for our masterbed room...and he hated the fact that we have to take public bus to Orchard instead of driving..and nothing fanciful with Xmas lighting...so so many excuses when he is only 9 yr old.

Jared 's Dropped Tooth 5 & 6

@P3 Dec Holidays, 9 yr old
It's actually 2 tooth that grow together..so they dropped at the same time too. It had been wobbling for a while and Jared would put them back into the socket everytime they ran out of place, and that night while playing his violin, he had trouble putting the tooth back..so daddy thought it was time to get rid of it. And then he started crying complaining why he had to suffer twice pain in the same day..He just had chicken pox jab in AM and at night he had to get his tooth removed.

Learning to be independent

Since End of Nov, Kaylen had also started her English class at TLL..and we managed to get both on same time slot Sun 1pm class.  We gave Jared the responsibilities to bring Kaylen to her class and fetch  her after class, call daddy at the center and bring Kaylen to Level 3 carpark to wait for daddy's car.

Me observing the both of them from far..

Spending Xmas Eve dinner at Sugar bun..our first time after so many years, having a full meal there..usually we were too full to have anything at sugar bun even for supper. Both kids had such a sumptious meal which they rated as their best of the trip...fish and chip with raisin rice.

I of cos will pack a lot of sch work there...this make Jared really frustrated to disturb him with the difficult sums from Getmethinking math book..and this yr, their violin is getting so much bigger and 2 piece of violin as handcarry is really no joke....So I finally agreed not to bring ..so kids had a full week of break from violin.

Grand Marnier Fruit Cake

Despite the bz schedule of xmas party, trips to CHS buying books for the new year, I managed to bake this Grand Marnier Fruit cake to bring home with me...Got Hung to help me get the Grand Marnier from SG airport at $47.80...Baked with the wrong tin at 9inch..so it turned out very short, and crack on the top...but the taste was so so nice..

WHAT IS BUAH DABAI?
"Dabai is one of many exotic fruits in Sarawak.
It is commonly known as or-kana - means 'black olive' in Hokkien, but technically it is not an olive.
The dabai tree can grow up to 21 meters high and it's furry leaves are thin and its twigs are covered with golden down. A planting distance of 9 meters is recommended. You need to prune the young trees to produce more bushy growth.
Dabai trees are dioecious (i.e have separate sexes) with male and female trees required for fruiting! Dabai are white in colour when immature and turn black when ripe. They are oblong in shape like an olive and have thin, edible skin. The yellowish white flesh wraps around a three-angled seed. Soak the dabai in hot water until they are soft. The yellowish flesh tastes creamy. Eating the skin is a personal preference. For taste, try either soy sauce or salt. You can also preserve it just by soaking them with black soy sauce or with coarse salt (without the seed). Dabai fried rice is a specialty dish in Sarawak. However this is a seasonal fruit.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF DABAI
Lipid was the major macronutrient in Dabai fruit, while the predominant minerals were magnesium and calcium. Dabai fruit was a good source of unsaturated fatty acids, with 38-44% oleic acid, 12-14% linoleic acid and trace of linolenic acid. The total anthocyanin content in dabai fruit (2.05-2.49 mg anthocyanin/g dried weight) was comparable to that of blackberry, blueberry and grape. Sixteen types of phenolic compounds from phenolic acids to the various subclasses of flavonoids had been identified in dabai fruit. Dabai fruit is a potential fruit with double set of benefits, which its lipids tend to produce a better blood lipid profile while the high content of phenolic compounds gives antioxidant effects.

Catholic High

The 1st time we came, we were at the secondary side, so it was quite intimidating..After asking around..we got to the primary side on 2nd visit. Jared's 1st impression was is it a castle or something, with the big clock tower.

After getting the books, we found our way to his classroom which is at level 4..

Look more like  a smarties?? and the old style policemen shorts..heh. The button will be a hassle when carrying school bags, and playing violin..He will be joining the string ensemble and playing violin as CCA over at CHS instead or chinese orchestra..since he had been trained on it for years.

Basically CHS fulfilled what I would want as primary sch if I were given another choice, the affiliation to secondary and string ensemble CCA.  I hope he will have an enjoyable time for the next 3 yrs there..

To my dismay, for famous sch even the uniform is more ex. $20 per set..while pcps is like $12.50 only.
